CREATIVE DIRECTION

The creative direction explores the shift from confidence to vulnerability as she searches for validation outside of herself. The visual journey begins with a sense of intimacy and anticipation as she searches through her clothing, gradually building toward confidence once she finds her look. As she enters the street, lighting, styling, and movement emphasize her boldness and self-assurance. This gradually breaks down as she receives no external attention, with the visual language becoming darker, smaller, and more restrained. The final imagery reflects her emotional descent and journey home, physically mirroring her loss of confidence.

BRIEF​

The task was to collaborate with photographer Tara Behruz to develop a cohesive creative direction for a photoshoot exploring a woman’s journey of trying to figure herself out and find her place in the world. The goal was to translate the given story into a strong visual concept through styling, movement, posing, set, and photographic direction.

The process involved working closely with the photographer to develop the visual language and overall mood of the shoot, while directing the model and contributing to the creative decisions on set. The final outcome was a series of images that captured the emotional progression of the story.
MOOD BOARD & RESEARCH:

The mood board brought together styling, posing, set, and photographic references to create a visual language that felt bold, raw, and cinematic. The styling used a dramatic top paired with tights and minimal clothing to create contrast within the character’s appearance. Body language explored both exaggerated, expansive poses and more restrained, closed-off positions.

Set and location references drew from candid movie stills and celebrity paparazzi photography, creating an immediate, unpolished quality. The car interior further supported the feeling of confinement, while the overall imagery balanced confidence, vulnerability, and emotional tension.
